2010 Pro Bono Award Winners Announced
On June 24, 2010, Legal Services of Northern Virginia and the foundations of the Alexandria, Arlington, and Fairfax Bar Associations announced the winners of the 2010 Chief Justice Harry L. Carrico Pro Bono Awards. The winners were Bill Lowrance, Bob Cooper, Mary Catherine Gibbs, Charles Rories, and Katrese Watts (Paralegal). Each of these individuals made vital contributions to the local community through their tireless pro bono efforts. We also presented a new award this year—the pro bono law firm of the year—which went to the firm of Howrey LLP for its tireless efforts in helping victims of foreclosure rescue scams. The awards were presented at the annual Northern Virginia Pro Bono Reception which was held this year at the City of Alexandria Courthouse. The highlight of the evening was a thought-provoking keynote address by the Honorable Leroy F. Millette, Jr., of the Supreme Court of Virginia. Justice Millette was introduced by Robert Zelnick, a Prince William County attorney who is the longest serving member of LSNV’s Board of Directors.
